چکیده

The rate of adsorption of WEE virus onto chicken embryo cells in vitro was determined both on a cell layer and on a cell suspension. One-step growth curves were determined in cell suspensions and on cell layers. The latent period varied between 2 and 3(1/2) hours; it was shorter on cell layers and decreased with higher multiplicity of infection. The shortest period is probably the real latent period. The growth curves of the virus showed an initial exponential rise and reached a maximal constant value after 6 to 8 hours. The maximum virus yield per cell varied between 200 and 1000 on the cell layer, and between 100 and 200 in suspended cells. The yield of single infected cells was determined. An analysis of the distributions of the individual yields obtained after various periods of virus growth led to two main conclusions: (1) that virus is released from the same cell over a long period of time; (2) that one phase of the intracellular virus growth is exponential.

Formalin-inactivated Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis (Trinidad strain) vaccine produced in rolling-bottle cultures of chicken embryo cells.

Formalin-inactivated Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis vaccine was prepared from virus grown in rolling-bottle cultures of chicken embryo cells. Trinidad strain virus was propagated in these cultures with a maintenance medium consisting of serum-free medium 199 containing 0.25% human serum albumin (USP) and antibiotics. Manipulation of multiplicity of inoculum (0.06 to 0.00006) and maintenanc...

THE IN VITRO GROWTH PROPERTIES OF CELL LINES FROM EPSTEIN-BARR VIRUS-INDUCED TAMARIN TUMORS AND TAMARIN B CELLS TR ANSFORMED BY EPSTEIN BARR VIRUS

EBV-carrying human cell lines, depending on whether the cells are derived from Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) tumor biopsies or transformed by EBV in vitro, have different growth properties in vitro. In contrast, there are no clear differences between tamarin tumor lines and tamarin LCLs in vitro. Both types of tamarin cell lines could grow in agarose and formed colonies unlike human LCLs, althoug...

The Effect of Cell Population Density on the Amino Acid Requirements for Poliovirus Synthesis in Hela Cells

I t has previously been shown that in full grown monolayer cultures of HeLa cells infected with poliovirus the only components of the medium necessary for maximum virus output are glucose, glutamine, and salts (1, 2). Rappaport (3) has similarly reported maximum poliovirus production in monkey kidney cultures in the absence of a number of growth-essential amino acids; and a number of growth-ess...

An electron microscope study of virus-like particles in chick embryo and L cell cultures.

Latent virus infections in chickens have been recognized for several years. Many investigators have seen spherical, virus-like particles in normal chicken cell cultures, and have suggested that they might have been the virus of avian lymphomatosis, which occurs frequently without producing disease symptoms and is transmitted trans-ovarially. Virus-like particles were also observed during the pr...
